Honors Societies at PA Virtual


Ever wondered what honors societies there are at PA Virtual?


The honors societies at PA Virtual are part of nationally recognized institutions that offer great opportunities for students in school, through scholarships, and honors recognitions at graduation.


Many are by invitation only and teachers will make sure you meet all the criteria before invitations are sent. If you think you qualify, please check your email for that invitation. Many invites are sent in September or early October and have deadlines within a few weeks of being emailed out. If you hope to join a society, read below for more details.

National Honors Society


This invite-only society recognizes Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. Members collaborate on educational projects, run peer tutoring, and create community through society meetings. Students must:


● Be in grades 10 through 12
● Have and maintain an overall 3.0 GPA
● Commit to regular meeting attendance and contribute to at least one NHS service project
● Accumulate 5 service hours each school year

National English Honors Society

 

This invite-only society recognizes students in tenth grade or above who are enrolled in Honors or AP-level
English courses and demonstrate outstanding academic achievement in language arts. To be considered
for Induction into PA Virtual’s Poet’s Corner chapter of NEHS, students must:


● Be in grades 10 through 12
● Be currently enrolled in an Honors-level English course or higher, and commit to maintaining Honors-level enrollment through graduation
● Have and maintain an English course grade of B+ or higher
● Have and maintain an overall 3.5 GPA
● Commit to regular meeting attendance and actively participate in or contribute to at least one NEHS service project
● Accumulate 5 service hours participation on a literacy project each school year

 

Induction is in the Fall only

National Science Honors Society


All 10th-12th grade students are invited to apply for membership to the Science
National Honor Society. SNHS is a prominent scientific organization that will inspire a new group of young thinkers who will be the future of the industry, research, and scientific exploration for America.
You may apply to join the NSHS if you meet the following requirements:


● Currently enrolled in a science class
● 3.0 GPA across all classes
● 3.5 GPA across all science classes
● Will complete 4 community service hours during the school year

National Math Honors Society

 

This invite-only society recognizes students who are currently
enrolled in or have completed Pre-Calculus, are currently
enrolled in a math course, and have a math GPA of 3.5 or
higher.

National Social Studies Society

 

Rho Kappa recognizes high achievement in social studies classes. Members must:


● Have been in attendance at the school for at least one semester;
● Have completed two core social studies courses and be prepared to complete at least three courses;
● Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.00 or the numerical equivalent;
● Have participated in activities that demonstrate civic engagement in their school or community;
● Provide a letter of recommendation; and
● Desire to be a member of Rho Kappa.
