Language Arts
In Language Arts, we provide structured lessons in phonics, language skills, literature, handwriting, spelling, and vocabulary to develop comprehension and promote a lifelong interest in reading. We use a variety of games, activities, and student-selected reading materials to make learning fun and interactive.
Mathematics
Our Math course focuses on computational fluency, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving. We extend work with place value to numbers through 100 and emphasize the fluency of addition and subtraction facts. There is a focus on number sentences and problem-solving with addition and subtraction.
Students will work with fundamental concepts like money, telling time, measurements, and ordering events. They will also begin to cover more advanced topics like the attributes of geometric figures, as well as patterning and data literacy.
Science
In Science, we develop observation skills as students learn to perform experiments, record observations, and understand how scientists see the natural world. They explore topics such as matter, weather, animal classification and adaptation, habitats, the oceans, light, plants, and the human body.
History
Our History course provides an overview of world geography and history from the Stone Age to the Space Age. This course takes students through the age of classical civilizations. Throughout the course students will learn about important concepts in economics and citizenship.
Art
In Art, students are introduced to the art and architecture of different cultures such as ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and China. They identify landscapes, still lifes, and portraits. Students will study elements of art such as line, shape, and texture. Then they create art similar to the works they learn about, using a variety of materials and techniques.
