Statistically Speaking Pa Virtual’s Overall Pssa Percentages For Proficient & Advanced For The Past 7 Years Exceed State Targets

  • PA Virtual has exceeded the state’s PSSA targets in Math and Reading for 7 years in a row.
  • The PSSA is the Pennsylvania standardized test for reporting progress related to the No Child Left Behind Act.
  • Each year the state sets the standard for the percentage of the student population that must score proficient and advanced in Math and Reading.

The PA Virtual Family and Student Support Services Department recently received the Nicholas Cericola Memorial Award at the 2010 Family Involvement Conference for outstanding accomplishments in the area of family involvement. This conference is coordinated by Pennsylvania Coalition for Parent Involvement, who advocates the involvement of parents and families in their children’s education.

PA Virtual Charter School High School History Teacher Taryn Kilbert was recently named the Pennsylvania recipient and national finalist for the “American Pioneer of Teaching Award” from the National Coalition for Public School Options.
The Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School been named “Parents’ Choice, Best Public School in Pennsylvania” according to BusinessWeek and GreatSchools.com. The GreatSchools/BusinessWeek Five Top-Performing High Schools initiative is based on both academic performance and parent opinion.
The Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School received the 2010 Award of Excellence in Student Services from the Pennsylvania Association of Pupil Services Administrators, in coordination with Pennsylvania Department of Education at the Fifth Annual Student Services Symposium.
Guidance Counseling team was awarded the 2011 Promising Practices Award from the Character Education Partnership (CEP)  for outstanding best practices in supporting students. CEP gave 260 awards to235 schools and districts across the US, Brazil, Mexico, and Singapore. This award recognizes programs developed specific, unique, and effective educational practices that promote character development.

PA Virtual Special Education Teacher Stacy McGowan and High School Teacher Cheryl Clothier were recently named Semi-Finalists for the 2013 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Teacher of the Year (NSTOY-PA) program.  PA Virtual is the only cyber charter school this year to have not one, but two teachers nominated as Semi-Finalists for this prestigious honor.
