Pennsylvania Information Management System (PIMS)
The Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School (PA Virtual) submits all required school data to the Pennsylvania Information Management System (PIMS) according to the schedule set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
The primary objectives of PIMS are to:
- Establish enterprise-wide systems and processes to streamline data management and utilization
- Provide multi-year longitudinal data to help teachers and administrators address individual student needs
- Empower teachers with state-of-the-art data analysis tools to improve individual student achievement
The Office of the Registrar at Pennsylvania Virtual ensures the accuracy and integrity of all student records. Cumulative student records for all currently active and formerly enrolled students are stored securely on-site. Our goal is to provide excellent support and service to the PA Virtual community and necessary outside agencies.
Student educational records are protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children’s education records. These rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or graduates secondary school. FERPA also allows schools to disclose student educational records to outside parties or agencies, including school officials, accrediting organizations, state and local authorities within the juvenile justice system, and to comply with judicial orders or lawfully issued subpoenas.
