Guidance Department at PA Virtual

The Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School Guidance Department supports student academic learning, enhances personal/social development, and increases knowledge in the career domain. We provide guidance services to all PA Virtual students while engaging students in career exploration and post-secondary planning. Our goal is for all students to reach their full academic and social potential with a partnership between the academic teachers, parents, and School Counselors.

What We Do

Our School Counselors provide grade-specific programming that focuses on the skills students need to achieve their full academic and social potential. In addition to individual sessions, our counselors organize assemblies, provide classroom presentations, distribute monthly newsletters, and offer the following small group sessions:

  • Introduction to High School
  • 9th Grade Time Management
  • Course Selection & Academic Planning
  • Naviance - An Online College and Career Platform
  • Naviance's SuperMatch - A College Search Tool
  • College Application Process
  • Financial Aid/FAFSA information
  • Scholarship Search Tools
  • Post-secondary Options - College/Vo-tech/Military/Workforce/etc.
  • Social/Emotional Learning & Mental Health Awareness

SAT and ACT Preparation

PA Virtual, through Ready to Learn Grant Funding, has partnered with Method Test Prep to offer free SAT and ACT Prep Courses. These courses are offered asynchronously to PA Virtual students in grades 10 through 12. In order to qualify, students must be planning to take the SAT or ACT this year and while enrolled at PA Virtual. Courses are provided to our families at no cost and offer targeted, flexible, interactive test preparation at each student’s individual pace.

PA Virtual Charter School administers both the PSAT and SAT exams on-site at our King of Prussia Administrative Office.

504 Plans

The Guidance Department at PA Virtual also ensures student support through Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This act was established to provide accommodations for students who have been determined to have a disability which substantially limits a major life activity.

Crisis Management/Response

Our School Counselors are here to support our students and families as they deal with stressors inside and outside of the school environment. The School Counselors can help create a plan to manage academics and coordinate with teachers while students are focusing on the other priorities in their lives.

PA Virtual provided me with countless skills which are vital in college.

Time management, note taking, online portal navigation, and test taking abilities are things I mastered with PA Virtual.
