SLAM

Our SLAM Enrichment Program (Science, Language Arts and Math) is geared towards students who need a little extra help with their academics, and perhaps do not qualify for Title I or Step Up services. The SLAM Program is dedicated to minimizing academic gaps so students can reach their greatest academic and social potential through extended services and face-to-face interactions. The SLAM Program provides opportunities for academic enrichment, assists students in developing strong peer-to-peer interaction, and provides students with a supportive environment. There are two facets to our SLAM Program: our Summer Enrichment Program and In-Year Tutoring Program.

SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

Our Summer Enrichment Program, for grades 4-8, is a four-week face-to-face program in July. Students attend daily classes in Science, Language Arts, and Math based around a central theme. Students work individually and in small groups with teachers who are dedicated to minimizing academic gaps.

THE GOALS OF OUR SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM ARE TO:

  1. Assist students to increase their academic achievement.
  2. Help students develop stronger understanding of conflict resolution.
  3. Help the students to expand their horizons and begin planning for the future.
  4. Reinforce the skills acquired during the academic school year.
  5. Provide students with a supportive environment for social growth.

TUTORING PROGRAMS

During the school year, the SLAM Program offers two tutoring programs: Drop-In and Mandatory.

  • Mandatory Tutoring is required for newly identified students in the Response to Intervention Program, grades 3-12. Teachers utilize Blackboard Collaborate™ to assist with tutoring these students in small groups 2-3 days per week. These sessions focus exclusively on Math and Language Arts.
  • Drop-In Tutoring is a free service offered to all students in grades 3-12. Students can “drop in” during dedicated office hours to receive extra help with their homework and/or class assignments. Drop-In Tutoring is available for Science, Language Arts, and Math.
