What are the basic steps of the enrollment process?

When you are ready to enroll, prepare by reviewing this FAQ and our document checklist. Then:

Apply

Complete your online application, making sure to submit the documents you have prepared. Once we receive your application, we’ll contact you to walk you through the enrollment process and to request any missing documents.

Schedule

After all of your documents have been received, your Enrollment Placement Teacher will call to schedule an Enrollment Conference for you and your child.

Enroll

At the Enrollment Conference, you’ll meet with your Enrollment Placement Teacher, get detailed information about your grade level and responsibilities, complete final paperwork, and confirm your start date. Your child should stay enrolled at his or her current school until a withdrawal date is determined at the conference.

HOW LONG WILL ENROLLMENT TAKE?

In order to help the enrollment process move quickly, review the documents needed before applying and have them ready to submit with your online application. Families who have all of their documents ready can often complete the process in just a few days.

IS THERE A RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR ENROLLING WITH PA VIRTUAL?

All students who reside in Pennsylvania are eligible for admission. If you do not live in Pennsylvania but are moving here in the near future, you will be eligible once you establish residency. For more details, please call us at 866-728-2751.

WHAT DOES IT COST TO ATTEND PA VIRTUAL?

PA Virtual is a free public school; there are no tuition fees.

WILL PA VIRTUAL PROVIDE A COMPUTER FOR MY CHILD?

PA Virtual provides the materials your child needs to learn at home, including a laptop, printer/scanner, and all curricular materials. We also provide technical support, troubleshooting, and a set internet reimbursement.

CAN I APPLY NOW FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR?

CAN I APPLY NOW FOR THE CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR?

PA Virtual has a rolling admission policy and many students transfer after the school year has begun. If more students submit applications than can be accommodated by the school’s capacity, a lottery will be held.

WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO ENROLL?

Families must submit their documents to complete the online application. Use this checklist to ensure you have the documents you’ll need.

WHEN CAN I START WITH PA VIRTUAL?

Students must stay enrolled and attending their current school while completing the application process. At the Enrollment Conference, your Enrollment Placement Teacher will set a start date with PA Virtual and a withdrawal date from your current school.

HOW OLD DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE TO ENROLL IN KINDERGARTEN?

Students interested in enrolling in PA Virtual’s kindergarten program must meet the age requirement of their resident school district. If you’re not sure what the age requirement is, please contact the district directly.

I’M OVER 21 YEARS OLD. CAN I ENROLL?

PA Virtual enrolls school-age students, as defined by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. This includes students from the age of 5 through 21.

I’M CURRENTLY EXPELLED FROM MY SCHOOL. CAN I ENROLL AT PA VIRTUAL?

Students who are currently expelled must return to their current school after the expulsion period has passed and meet all the conditions imposed during the expulsion.

MY CHILD HAS AN IEP AND RECEIVES SPECIAL SERVICES. CAN I APPLY?

PA Virtual has a full Special Education Department and provides a continuum of services for our qualifying students. As part of the enrollment process, we will request your child’s Special Education documents so that we can provide a continuation of appropriate services upon enrollment.

HOW DO HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS TRANSFER TO PA VIRTUAL?

Families submit high school transcripts as part of the enrollment process. Our Guidance Counselors will conduct a credit audit to determine credit transfer and progress towards graduation requirements.

WHAT IS THE ORIENTATION PROCESS FOR NEW FAMILIES?

PA Virtual provides a New Parent Orientation to guide you through the first few days of school. We also offer a “Boot Camp” website that contains videos and tutorials on our school software, technology, outings, mentorship programs, support services, and more. Additionally, our Parent Engagement Program offers ongoing webinars, professional development, and mentorship to PA Virtual parents. The orientation process is designed to help all families succeed in our virtual model.

I HAVE TRUANCY CHARGES. CAN I ENROLL?

According to state attendance laws, students are considered truant when they have 10 unexcused absences in a school year. Confirmation of attendance status and truancy clearance documentation may be requested.
