Family Support Services
The PAVCS Family Support Coordinators are a vital component of our unique Diamond Model Partnership, which allows us to realize our mission of guiding every student toward fulfilling his or her full social potential. In order for a virtual school model to be successful, parents must know that they are not alone in the education of their child. The unique PAVCS Family Support System delivers non-academic support to augment its academic support programs to every one of our families. We accomplish these goals through a full complement of guidance counselors, family support coordinators, high school homeroom teachers, academic support programs such as Title One, Step Up and SOAR.
Student and Family Support Services supports families by ensuring open communication, providing opportunities for social interaction, developing school community, engaging parents, identifying resources for parents and making certain the intellectual and social needs of all students are met.
Family Support Coordinators
PAVCS is the only virtual charter school in Pennsylvania to assign Family Support Coordinators to each family to provide consistent one-on-one support throughout the school year. Family Support Coordinators are our families’ first point of contact for non-academic concerns, and guide parents and students in becoming acquainted with all aspects of PAVCS.
Family Support Coordinators continue to work with families throughout the school year. In conjunction with parents, family support coordinators plan monthly geographically convenient outings which provide great opportunities for socialization, education and fun for all PAVCS families. Family Support Coordinators:
- Develop and schedule monthly geography-specific outings (see a sample outings calendar) throughout the state
- Acclimate parents and students with using technological tools like Blackboard, Online School and Elluminate
- Assist parents and students with ensuring they have all technology and/or curriculum supplies
- Capture and monitor daily attendance in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Education regulations
- Provide daily support to parents and students for all non-academic concerns
